This is a blog for historians (and the historically minded!) who, like myself, are thoroughly frustrated by the ways in which history is \u201cused and abused\u201d in\u00a0public discourse and policy making.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve set a modest goal for myself.\u00a0 It is to simply reflect on\u00a0strategies\u00a0that might make historical work more effective. I am making no claims to having the silver bullet, but I am certain that what historians are doing currently is\u00a0not<\/u><\/em>\u00a0working \u2013 or at least it is not working very well \u2026<\/p>\n

So, what does usable history look like?\u00a0 Well that\u2019s part of the problem \u2026 There is neither a consensus about what makes history \u201cusable\u201d nor a methodology to guide us as we write and teach history.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re interested in straying from the traditional, efforts to think outside the box, and strategies that push the boundaries of the historical discipline then consider joining discussions on Usable History.<\/p>\n
